This is a privately escorted tour of the Tivoli Gardens and Hadrian's Villa and will begin with you being met at your hotel in Rome or your cruiseship.  The price of the tour depends on the number of people in your party and your pick up location.

The town of Tivoli was a famous vacation spot for the Roman aristocrats and essentially became a play ground for the noble families who built some of the most beautfiful and expansive gardens here.  The gardens at Tivoli are some of the largest in Europe and most certainly worthwhile of a visit during your stay in Rome.  The town of Tivoli itself is also a very beautiful spot to see with sweeping views over Rome.

This tour provides insight into Roman history and emphasizes many aspects about how Italian Gardens played an integral role in the society.

The adventure starts with a relaxing drive through the Lazio region. This tour will allow you to better understand why Villa D'Este stands out to be the most prominent and famous among the tourists? The breathtaking gardens, about 500 jets in fountains, pools and water-troughs are the ideal picnic points. The Villa's uppermost terrace ends in a balustrade balcony at the left end, with a sweeping view over the plain below. Symmetrical double flights of stairs flanking the central axis lead to the next garden terrace, with the Grotto of Diana, richly decorated with frescoes and pebble mosaic to one side and the central Fontana del Bicchierone ("Fountain of the Great Cup") loosely attributed to Bernini, where water issues from a seemingly natural rock into a scrolling shell-like cup.

There are many statues all over the Tivoli gardens and some surprisingly strange ones ! Your guide will explain the significance of many of them!

Folowing Tivoli, we will head to the Villa Adriana, whcih was constructed at Tivoli as a retreat from Rome for Roman Emperor Hadrian during the 2nd century AD. Hadrian was said to dislike the palace on the Palatine Hill in Rome, leading to the construction of the retreat. Hadrian's Villa (Villa Adriana) was a complex of over 30 buildings, covering an area of about 1 KM2 (c. 250 acres) of which much is still unexcavated. The complex includes palaces, theatre, temples, libraries, state rooms and quarters for courtiers, praetorians and slaves.
